The Major idea they wanted to address is how can we build a smart COC (City Operating Center) that controls and monitors the city’s infrastructure operations through a central control room.
The objective is to show the power and the quality
that we could provide the client that will enable them
to monitor the whole city (Electricity – Water SupplyLandscape- Garbage, Transportation, Traffic, etc.)
The design was centred around a “tree of information” and from that sprouted the different elements of the design.
Although seemingly simple there were several fabrication and installation challenges in this project that we managed to overcome. Firstly the ceiling being carried by 4 slanted steel I-Beams, with no permissibility to drill into the floor was solved by creating a steel substructure to give a stable foundation for the the V shaped ceiling.
Secondly the technology tree where the design needed smooth light beams coming from top to bottom in the shape of a tree and into the flooring.
This was solved by creating grooves into the
wood where the tree base would be fixed and
another groove for the LED light strip. The tree
itself was composed of more than 20 grooved wood columns
each divided into 4 parts making the tree come
together using 80 wooden pieces, which slide
into each other like lego pieces, carefully assembled, repainted and fitted with led lights.
The whole project was installed in less than 3
days.
